The NS0-184 exam earns the NetApp Certified Storage Installation Engineer, ONTAP (NCSIE) credential — validating field-level expertise in the physical installation, cabling, configuration, and handoff of NetApp ONTAP storage systems. This covers the complete new-cluster installation lifecycle: pre-installation documentation, physical cabling of nodes and disk shelves, initial ONTAP cluster setup, networking configuration (IPspaces, LIFs, VLANs), switch cabling and software, ONTAP configuration (aggregates, volumes, SVMs), security hardening, and formal customer handoff.
NCSIE is primarily targeted at NetApp professional services engineers, partner field engineers, and system integrators who physically install and commission NetApp AFF, FAS, and ASA storage systems at customer data centres. While NCDA (NS0-163) is recommended, it is not a hard prerequisite — NCSIE candidates should have at least 6–12 months of hands-on experience with NetApp ONTAP solutions. The credential validates the ability to go on-site, rack and stack, cable, configure, validate, and hand over a fully working ONTAP cluster.
